Why the world needs SmartAID

When the 2010 earthquake struck Haiti, SmartAID’s founder Shachar Zahavi saw how technology could have made a difference.

Drones would have confirmed that riots weren’t occurring so that aid could enter the capital safely. Solar power would have helped people reconnect, and fintech could have empowered the unbanked.

There was a gap. Aid workers had local expertise but lacked access to the tools they needed to make impactful change, while companies with those tools were far removed from the ground.

At SmartAID, we bring these two worlds together. We work side-by-side with local doctors, social workers, and teachers in humanitarian crises to integrate technology that fits each community’s needs. We fly in essential tech and source local solutions to help communities heal from disasters and build resilience long-term.

SmartAID exists to ensure technology reaches where it’s needed most, and is designed to make a difference.

Every project we do is guided by our principles

Guided by four core principles, we ensure that every interaction – from the first call for help to the final phase of rebuilding – provides communities with the support they need to recover and thrive.

Independence

We are apolitical and non-governmental, serving those who need aid wherever they are.

Collaboration

We work with local and international organizations to bring aid better, faster and further.

Human-centered

We serve people in crisis with dignity and care, rebuilding their communities together.

Tech for good

We take technological advancements and apply them where their impact is positive for the world.

From our Founder, Shachar Zahavi

At SmartAID, we are redefining humanitarian aid as a 2.0 organization, prioritizing maximum impact for every dollar donated. In today’s environment, where efficiency and effectiveness are paramount, we focus on directing resources to on-the-ground efforts that directly support those in need.

Unlike traditional charities that allocate significant portions of their budgets to administrative overhead, internal infrastructure, SmartAID streamlines operations to minimize waste. By leveraging innovative strategies, technologies and experts from the technology and aid world we ensure that over 98% of funds are deployed directly to our hands on programs, rather than being absorbed by salaries or operational costs.

This commitment to transparency and efficiency sets us apart in Israel, the Jewish world, and the broader international humanitarian field, enabling us to help more people in need with every contribution.
