Colombia

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia 10 August. More than 250 people have died, thousands have lost their homes, and critical infrastructure is damaged. Our team is working closely with Colombian authorities, first responders and local affected communities.

Technology where it's needed most

SmartAID deploys technology and practical solutions in disaster zones, from the first days of an emergency through long-term recovery.

Our approach is simple: listen first, work locally, and bring in technology where it solves a real problem.

In Colombia we combine the expertise and equipment already available in the country with hardware, software and support from our global corporate partners. When specialized technology is not available locally, we bring it in.

Our Current Focus:

  • Clean energy — solar power, batteries and portable energy for clinics, shelters and first responders
  • Connectivity — satellite internet and emergency telecommunications
  • Clean water — portable filtration and purification

Readying as needs are confirmed:

  • Drones and mapping — locating damage, blocked roads and isolated communities
  • Medical technology — portable solutions for health teams and displaced communities
  • AI and data — turning field information into faster, better decisions

Where your donation goes

Our approach is simple: buy locally wherever possible, and bring in innovative solutions and technology when they fill a real gap.

SmartAID's first priority and request is financial support. It gives us the flexibility to purchase equipment and supplies that supplement our technological solutions.

Buying locally can be faster and more cost effective. It supports the local economy and, importantly, equipment purchased in Colombia can be maintained and repaired locally long after the immediate emergency is over.

But not every solution is available locally. Through our global corporate partners, we bring in technological solutions that have already proven effective in similar disasters around the world.

Keeping the technology working. A satellite terminal needs a monthly service plan. A water filter needs replacement cartridges. Solar equipment needs spare parts and repairs. The hardware is donated; keeping it running is not.

Installing and training. Your donation pays to set up equipment and to train the people who will use it long after we leave.

Our logistics partner DHL delivers everything we ship — free, door to door, including customs duties. No part of your donation pays for freight. Our corporate partners donate the technology. DHL donates the end-to-end delivery.

Colombia leads. We strengthen.

We work through the systems already in place. We integrate practical technology into what Colombian responders, charities and local organizations are already doing, so they can reach more people, faster.

The equipment stays. The knowledge stays. Local businesses benefit. Colombian communities remain at the center of their own recovery.

Your donation gives them the tools to act.
