SmartAID’s response to Turkey’s earthquake crisis
In the wake of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey, SmartAID mobilised quickly to provide much-needed relief. Our team in Sydney spent many days preparing 10 pallets of medical goods generously donated by MedEarth, including ventilators, syringes, ICU recovery equipment, oxygen meters, wheelchairs, thermal shock blankets, crutches, and more. Additionally, we packed warm bedding, headlamps from local Turkish communities in Sydney, solar lights donated by Solar Buddy and Ayala Foundation, and sleeping bags donated by Kathmandu Australia.
This aid was sent to a newly established camp in Adayaman, Turkey, which was home to 1,500 people who had lost everything in the earthquake. We are deeply grateful to DHL teams in Sydney, Singapore, and Turkey for their swift logistics support, which made it possible for SmartAID to deliver this critical aid to those in need.
Special thanks also go to Consul General Mr. Ali Sevim and Vice Consul General Mr. Mehmet Erçikti of Türkiye for generously volunteering their time and assisting with the preparation of supplies.
We extend our gratitude to Rachel Ward, as well as the volunteers from the Turkish Consulate, the Turkish community, MedEarth, and The Angels Network, who joined the SmartAID volunteer team in packing 21 pallets.
