Ukraine Mission

SmartAID has completed an on-the-ground mission across Lviv and Kyiv, led by Founder and CEO Shachar Zahavi and Program Manager Andrina Grynberg, to review programs already supporting Ukrainian communities and identify what comes next.

In Lviv, the delegation visited UNBROKEN, the city's major rehabilitation ecosystem supporting Ukrainians affected by the war, as well as Lyceum No. 17, where SmartAID has provided a SMARTCLASS. The team also visited Dzherelo, where wheelchairs supplied through SmartAID are supporting people with disabilities and complex rehabilitation needs.

In Kyiv, SmartAID visited Lyceum Eco No. 198, another school benefiting from the SMARTCLASS initiative. Following discussions on the ground, SmartAID is now exploring the potential expansion of the program to up to 15 additional schools in Kyiv.

"Being here changes your understanding completely. You can talk about technology, equipment and programs from thousands of kilometres away, but when you walk into a school, a rehabilitation centre or a home for older Ukrainians and meet the people actually using them, you understand what impact really means." - Andrina Grynberg, Program Manager

The delegation also visited the Children's Social and Psychological Rehabilitation Center No. 1, the Kyiv Geriatric Pension and the Prolisok Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center for Children with Disabilities, where SmartAID has provided specialised equipment to support children's exercise and rehabilitation.

Across all visits, the SmartAID team saw the extraordinary work being undertaken by Ukrainian educators, carers, rehabilitation specialists and community organisations, often while operating under the ongoing pressures of war, disrupted infrastructure and power insecurity.

"The most effective humanitarian technology is not necessarily the most complicated. It is the technology that solves the problem in front of you. Our Ukrainian partners understand their communities. Our role is to listen, connect those needs with the right technology and partnerships, and turn that into practical action." - Shachar Zahavi, Founder
